FROM WAREHOUSE TO WORKSPACE FOR BASSETTS NEW HQ

GEM was appointed by leading Northern Ireland bathroom, heating and tiles merchant, Bassetts, to deliver major reworks and refurbishment at the firm’s Portadown head office. To ensure the business experienced zero downtime, the work was completed over three phases – trade warehouse, trade counter, and the formation of new offices.

The project involved using Bassetts’ existing warehouse space to repurpose and fit out for extended office use with the existing office space in the adjoining building. This required GEM to break through to connect the two spaces. GEM then installed new floors, walls, ceilings, windows and door openings, carried out all necessary joinery work and fitted out new furniture. A staff kitchen was also installed as part of the major works programme and full electrical and mechanical installation work was also completed.

In addition to the internal refurbishments, GEM also carried out external works; fitting new windows, external cladding, concrete work to fire exits, new ramps and a small extension to the car park. Working on a live operational site GEM ensured all activity was carefully planned to work around Bassetts’ business needs. To deliver a smooth and seamless changeover GEM migrated the office space over a weekend during the business’ out of hours, including IT, telephone lines, heating etc.

All work was completed over an eight week period, on schedule and on budget.
